Let one first establish oneself in what is proper,

and then instruct others.

Such a wise man will not be defiled.

學當先求解觀察別是非受諦應誨彼慧然不復感

먼저 무엇이 옳은지 스스로에게 분명해진 뒤에

다른 이들을 가르쳐야 하리.

그와 같이 현명한 사람은

(세상의 비난 등에) 더럽혀지지 않으리. (158)

If one holds oneself dear,

one should protect oneself well.

During every one of the three watches (of life)

the wise man should keep vigil (against evil).

自愛身者愼護所守希望欲解學正不寐

자신을 소중히 여기는 사람은

자신을 잘 지켜야 하리.

(삶 가운데) 세 차례 (자신을) 돌아볼 때마다

현명한 사람이라면

(악에 대해) 늘 조심하고 깨어 있어야 하네. (157)

Righteousness does not wear away/정의는 닳아 없어지지 않는다

Even ornamented royal chariots wear out.

So too the body reached old age.

But the Dharma of the Good grows not old.

Thus, indeed say the Saints among themselves.

老則形變喩如故車法能除苦宜以力學

화려하게 장식한 임금의 수레조차도 부서져 버리니,

늙어지면 육체도 똑같네.

그러나 부처님의 진리만은 늙지 않ㅇ니,

이는 진실로 성지들께서 하신 말씀이네. (151)
